The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) has officially announced the commencement of the 2026 Board Election, inviting eligible members to submit nominations and participate actively in shaping the future leadership and governance of the Society.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment, as the Society continues its mission of strengthening copyright administration, transparency, and sustainable income for Nigerian music creators.

About the MCSN 2026 Board Election

The MCSN Board (General Council / Board of Directors) provides strategic direction, policy oversight, and governance leadership for the Society. The 2026 Board Election offers qualified members the opportunity to contribute directly to decision-making and the long-term growth of collective rights management in Nigeria.

In line with MCSN’s governing documents, the election process will be conducted in a transparent, democratic, and accountable manner.

MCSN Board Election 2026: Key Dates You Must Know

All eligible members should note these critical deadlines:

  • Nomination Deadline: Friday, January 23, 2026 (close of business)
  • Election Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2026 (or earlier)
  • Voter Registration Cut-off: December 31, 2023 (register must show membership as of this date)

Missing the nomination deadline means forfeiting your opportunity to participate in this crucial MCSN Board Election cycle.

MCSN Board Election Eligibility: Who Can Participate?

To vote in the MCSN Board Election, you must:

  • Have your name recorded in MCSN’s official register as of December 31, 2023.
  • Be a member in good standing with no outstanding disciplinary issues.
  • Have updated contact information on file with MCSN.

Important Note: All current Directors who have served since 2022 or earlier will retire but remain eligible for re-election during the MCSN Board Election.

Positions Open for Election and Nomination into the MCSN General Council (Board)

In accordance with Article 35 of the Society’s Articles of Association, the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) hereby outlines the positions currently open for election and nomination into its General Council (Board).

These vacancies shall be filled through the election and nomination process and subsequently ratified at an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

 

1. Elected Board Members

A total of six (6) members shall be elected into the General Council, distributed as follows:

a. Composer/Writer Representatives (Four Positions)

Four composer/writer members shall be elected to represent the diverse musical genres and rights within the Nigerian music ecosystem.

This structure ensures balanced genre representation and inclusivity within the Board.

 

b. Publisher Representatives (Two Positions)

Two publisher members shall be elected to represent the interests of music publishers within the Society’s governance framework.

 

2. Nominations from Affiliated Associations and Guilds

In addition to elected positions, nominations shall be received from associations and guilds that have subsisting representation agreements with MCSN, in the following order:

a. Performing Musicians’ Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN)

  • Two (2) nominations from PMAN

b. Other Recognised Associations and Groups

  • One (1) nomination each from registered or incorporated associations or groups with which MCSN has entered into a copyright collective management representation agreement on behalf of their members and affiliates.

 

Publication and Ratification of Nominations

All nominations received for election or appointment shall be:

  • Published by the Society ahead of the election
  • Subject to final election and/or ratification at the next Annual or Extraordinary General Meeting
  • Accompanied by advance notification of the method of election or ratification

This process reinforces MCSN’s commitment to openness, due process, and democratic governance.
