Who we are

Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) represents the rights of music creators. This means that we ensure that composers, lyricists, performers, producers, and publishers are remunerated when their works are used in public.

We license organisations to play or copy music

If you’re a business or organisation you can buy a licence from us to play, perform, copy, record or make available our music. We then pay the royalties to our members and overseas affiliated societies.

We advocate for our members’ rights

We promote the importance of music creators’ rights to all levels of government, the media and the wider community.

We represent your music globally

As an MCSN member, you enjoy global representation for your music rights. We have agreements with other organisations like us around the world. So when your music is used in another territory, our affiliates collect money on your behalf. They then pay these royalties to us, and we pay you.

MCSN Timeline

We have a long and proud history of representing music creators in Nigeria.

MCSN was set up to take over the responsibilities of both the PRS and MCPS in Nigeria

We got the National Assembly to investigate, through public hearing, its denial of approval as a collecting society, at the end of which the 7th National Assembly directed the Nigerian Copyright Commission to immediately approve MCSN as a collecting society (Collective Management Organization).

Secured Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice’s directive to the Nigerian Copyright Commission for approval as a collective management organisation (collecting society) after many years of legal battles at the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal.

Supreme Court of Nigeria gave final affirmation to our legal status and rights, which have been denied for nearly three decades.

Today, MCSN covers the rights and uses of music - We manage rights for both local and international songs, for the mutual benefit of music creators and licensees.
